Beginning early this year, google made some changes to their search ranking,   in the name of providing more relevant search results for it’s users, google engineers published blog post which indicated there were 11.8% organic search results will be affected, say it another way, google thinks about 12% of it’s search results are really bad and need to manipulated. They planned and started the update about one year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, a few of these keywords ranked better than ever, it’s obvious that linking campaign the old way is the thing of past, probably due to links crammed sites being de-indexed by google.

Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they add your links to those linking websites without context, the only updates on those websites are the new links, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, the name of link spamming sites is justified. The latest google update will definitely downgrade most if not all of these sites, all the links on those websites will have the same fate.  

Let’s check out a few examples. When I got into online marketing long time ago, I needed to rank the keyword, http://www.mfrexpress.com/cargo-control-e-track-accessories-c-2_22.html, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, a lot of sites I used had too many links, and those sites had only links, no real content at all. This strategy worked in the beginning, eventually the keyword could be found on first page,   the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain puller , we put the link in relevant context, not too many plain links have been built, now we have really good ranking for this keyword. So contextual link wins this time, what about future? It all boils down to content, when you create unique and quality content, your rank will improve over time, since search engines are another kind of readers. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, such as this interesting blog, top smartphone , in the beginning I just post to it casually, lately I added nice stuff left and right, now it can even rank the highly competitive keywords. As we can see, quality article marketing is much better than plain link building. Bottom line is that you should create great content, get people to enjoy and share your stuff, promote your business with the content, your effort will reward you handsomely in the end. The virtues, persistence and patience, are essential for your success, you shouldn’t expect things to improve overnight, it doesn’t matter you’re doing SEO or advertising your business, keep writing, publishing, sharing and creating, you will see the day of success.
